Whether you’re an early riser, nature lover, or just looking for a peaceful way to start the day, Retzer Nature Centerinvites you to join a series of free Friday morning birdwatching walks this May.

Held on May 16, May 23, and May 30, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., the guided walks will cover an easy 1.5-mile routethrough the scenic trails of Retzer, located at S14W28167 Madison Street in Waukesha.

Participants will have the chance to explore different areas of the park while scouting for local and migratory bird species. The event is open to all skill levels—no birding experience is necessary—and is recommended for ages 8 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Attendees are encouraged to bring binoculars or borrow a pair from the nature center’s limited supply. Cameras are also welcome, making it a great outing for amateur photographers hoping to capture spring wildlife. The event will be held rain or shine, so dressing for the weather is advised.

“We welcome anyone curious about birds and nature, no matter your experience,” said staff at Retzer Nature Center. “It’s a relaxing and educational way to enjoy the outdoors as a family or on your own.”

Walkers should meet in the parking lot near the Learning Center building before the start of each session. Registration is not required for individuals or small parties. However, if a group of 10 or more plans to attend, please call ahead to notify staff at (262) 896-8007.

This free program is part of Waukesha County Parks’ ongoing mission to connect people with nature and promote healthy, outdoor lifestyles.
